The Toolsmith pliers and cutters range for bench jewellers, beaders, wire workers and repair studios: parallel action, chain nose, round nose, flat nose, bent nose, nylon jaw, side cutters, flush cutters and memory wire cutters.
Many pairs have box joints and return springs; each product page gives the jaw type, length and material. Every order ships from UK stock with free UK delivery, and we aim to dispatch orders placed before 2pm UK time, Monday to Friday, the same working day.
Who these tools are for
Bench jewellers, silversmiths, wire wrappers, beaders, jewellery repair studios, and students who have outgrown a beginner kit. Watchmakers also use them for strap and bracelet work.
Pliers by job
- Parallel action: the jaws stay parallel throughout the grip, so round wire and stock are held evenly
- Chain nose: smooth tapered jaws for loops, bends, jump rings and component work
- Round nose: conical jaws for consistent loops and ear wires
- Flat nose & bent nose: for opening jump rings, setting angles and gripping flat stock
- Side cutters & flush cutters: for trimming wire ends
How to pick the right pair
For softer metals (sterling silver, fine silver, gold, copper) pick smooth-jaw or nylon-jaw pliers so you don't scratch the stock. For hard wire, use cutters with tungsten carbide jaws. If you form a lot of round loops, round nose pliers with a consistent taper make loops easier to repeat.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between flush cutters and side cutters?
Flush cutters leave one flat end and one pinched end, so you cut with the flush side towards the work. Side cutters leave two bevelled ends. For finished jewellery ends, flush is preferred.
Do I need parallel action pliers?
Not strictly, but if you work with round wire, tube or stone settings where flat jaws would concentrate pressure and mark the metal, parallel action pliers help.
Can I use these for watchmaking and strap work?
Yes. Chain nose and flat nose pliers are often used for watch straps, spring bars and bracelet resizing; see also Watch Repair Kits.
Do you dispatch the same day?
We aim to. Orders placed before 2pm UK time, Monday to Friday, are targeted for same-day dispatch; later orders are dispatched from the next working day. It is a target, not a guarantee. Most UK orders arrive 2-3 working days after dispatch.
Do you offer trade or bulk pricing?
Yes. Email info@toolsmithltd.co.uk with your requirements for trade and bulk pricing. We supply jewellery colleges and working studios across the UK.
