How to choose
Pick steel for long-life bench use and hammer forming - aluminium is lighter and won't mark plated rings during a quick size check but dents under heavier work. UK and US size stamps should be deep and legible; shallow ink-printed markings wear off in weeks. For forming, a tapered mandrel gives smoother round stock than stepped; for sizing, stepped is faster.
