Toolsmith: "Same-Day UK Dispatch": What It Actually Means at Toolsmith

Every online shop says "fast dispatch." Most mean "we'll post it in the next few days." A few actually mean same-day. Because "same-day" is often vague, here's exactly what happens at Toolsmith Ltd after you click checkout — and where the edge cases are.

The standard promise

If you order before 2pm UK time on a working day, your tools are dispatched the same day. No exceptions for regular stock. Working days are Monday to Friday, UK bank holidays excluded.

What "dispatched" actually means

Dispatched means:

  1. Your order is picked from our UK warehouse.
  2. It's packed and weighed.
  3. A Royal Mail or courier label is generated (with tracking).
  4. The parcel is scanned into the carrier's network before the daily collection.
  5. You get a dispatch confirmation email with the tracking number.

Once it's scanned in, the parcel is in the carrier's hands and physically out of our warehouse that same evening.

What delivery speed to expect after dispatch

This is down to the carrier, not us, but typical UK arrival times:

  • Royal Mail Tracked 48: 2 working days from dispatch.
  • Royal Mail Tracked 24: 1 working day from dispatch (used for heavier or higher-value orders).
  • DPD / Evri courier: next working day in most of the UK; some Highlands and islands take longer.

So an order placed at 1pm Tuesday typically arrives Thursday. An order placed at 3pm Tuesday dispatches Wednesday and typically arrives Friday.

The edge cases

Weekend orders

An order placed Friday 3pm dispatches Monday. An order placed Saturday or Sunday dispatches Monday. The product page countdown on every listing now shows this live — if you've missed today's cutoff, it tells you the next dispatch day.

Bank holidays

Orders placed on a UK bank holiday dispatch the next working day. Order-in-hand countdown on product pages reflects this.

Out-of-stock items

If something's out of stock, you won't be able to add it to cart — we don't take orders we can't fulfil. Stock status is live on the product page.

Mixed orders where one item is delayed

If an order contains an item we unexpectedly can't dispatch same day, we contact you within 2 working hours with options: wait for the full order, split-ship the in-stock items now, or cancel and refund.

International orders

International orders follow the same same-day dispatch rule but transit times depend on destination. Most arrive within 7–14 working days. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout.

Why we can actually do this

Two reasons, both boring:

  • One UK warehouse. We don't drop-ship, we don't cross-dock from Europe or Asia, we don't rely on third-party fulfilment. Every product we sell is physically on a shelf in our warehouse when you order it.
  • A 2pm cutoff leaves real picking time. Our picks-to-carrier window is roughly 2pm–5pm. That's enough time to handle same-day volume without cutting corners on packing.

What we don't do

We don't offer Saturday or Sunday dispatch. We don't promise next-day delivery on every order (that's the carrier's job, not ours). We don't do "free express" that's actually 5-day Royal Mail 48 in disguise. Free UK delivery on every order — tracked, insured, and same-day dispatched before 2pm on working days. That's the whole promise.
