How to choose
Keep a dedicated pair for metal: cutting metal with fabric scissors, or fabric with metal shears, blunts both. Curved-blade jewellers shears follow curves in sheet more easily than straight blades. Duckbill applique scissors have a wide lower blade that protects the bottom layer of fabric while you trim the top one.

It varies by pair; check the product page for the maker's stated capacity. For thick stock, use a jeweller's saw instead.
What are duckbill applique scissors for?
The wide, flat lower blade slides under the top layer of fabric and protects the layer beneath while you trim close to the stitching.
Can I use embroidery scissors for beading thread?
Yes. A fine-point embroidery pair is ideal for beading thread. Keep it away from metal work.
